Why is learning hard? Hanglin’s post#1

I think this is a really interesting topic that I have seen. It is not just about how to learn things, but also about the contacting to the whole world even ourselves. When we learning something for the first time(like you have not even known about this thing),the man or article gives you the first impression. And the first impression is so strong that you do not even know how strong it is. For example, it would be different that your mom/dad gives you the concept of the moon if he/she is a poet or scientist. Poet may introduce you to many imageries of the moon or interesting stories. But scientist will teach you that it is a Celestial body in the infinity universe. The interesting thing is, his/her point of view will give you huge influence, even his/her attitude. You will have a romantic motion about the moon by the influence of the poet or the curiosity of the universe. But the problem is, we are not always receiving the right or objective information, and that is the seed of your bias. Just like the statement from the article why is learning hard, “These misconceptions about the world, combined with what is known as confirmation bias, meaning that we give more credibility to ideas we already agree with, and less credibility to ideas we disagree with, lead to a situation where it is very difficult to change someone’s mind.”(paragraph 4) We have to say, it is not easy to deny ourselves, or it feels bad at least. As you are growing up, you are receiving more and more information. It is easy to reject some new ideas, otherwise, you will become a philosopher and drown in infinity pondering.

But now, we already realized the bias in our minds, I think we should try to think things more objectively. Like when we are facing a concept that is different from the old one, we should figure out what is the main conflict between the two concepts(or do they actually against each other). And like the situation talked about in the article(paragraph1,2), we also should distinguish what is meaningless emotional speech. I think that would be helpful.
